Amitriptyline (AMTL) is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) primarily used to treat mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, While effective for mood disorders, it is now frequently prescribed off-label for managing chronic pain, such as neuropathic pain, migraines, and fibromyalgia, and for preventing tension headaches. It works by increasing the levels of neurotransmitters, specifically serotonin and norepinephrine, in the brain to restore balance. Due to its sedative effects, it is often taken at night.
